2012 Woodstock serie

Having successfully shown my art now at a few shows in Germany, I felt it was time to go back to New York. You may have guessed by now that my commitment to my art was the one thing I was completely dedicated to. I needed to paint…it wasn’t an option. It was here that dear friends invited me to paint at their barn in Woodstock. I was ecstatic by being able to paint surrounded by nature, dear standing behind me watching me, sun shining down on me and fire burning. I was intoxicated by my surroundings. It was probably what allowed me to endure the two hour bus trip there and back…and it was all worth it. I created 12 babies in my Woodstock series.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]2011 Harlem serie

124th ST NEW YORK CITY ….dead set in the heart of Harlem. Not the securest of places to be. I however needed a space to paint and the Northern lighting this studio provided was perfect. Rent was high so I shared it with another artist and it was great being surrounded by artistic energy. During this time that I was introduced to a book called “The War of Art” by Steven Pressfield (I highly recommend it to any artist, as it reminds and inspires us to overcome resistance to be our art) it was this book (in addition to the inspiration Maui inspired) that I came to understand myself a little more through my art and created a piece called “Resistance”. It was now also becoming evident to myself and others that I was truly overcoming obstacles and dedicating my life to my art. It was because of this that I was asked to show my art at the Trump Tower in New York.  Donald Trump himself came down to see my paintings. He was graceful enough to let me show him all my pieces, but the minute he saw “Resistance” he without hesitation said “that one!” I excitedly thanked Mr. Trump and ensured he was sent the piece.

Encouraged by the universe and grateful for the signs I felt pointing me to continue with my art; I sought after a new studio. Through a teacher at The Art Students League of New York, I was referred to a building that was about to be renovated. The owner was willing to rent out a room for me until the construction began.

My fears however came to fruition when construction at the building started before I was able to finish my pieces. I found myself especially challenged by the universe this time as I went to go paint one day and found my babies laced with dirt and dust….a few even had foot prints over them and juice spilt on them. It was clear the construction workers were sending me a message to get out of their way. I felt this series wasn’t ready yet however, so I poured my heart into finishing them. In the end I was painting in a room with no windows or walls. I was forced to leave my work exposed with a mere sheet of plastic held down by bricks so that they could dry[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]INSPIRED BY Maui

While I did not paint while I was in Maui, it was here that I was able to capture spectacular views on film. I was in awe of the beauty and if you have even been to Maui, I am sure you can understand when I say there was endless inspiration. During my time here I treasured the colors, the life and the movement of the Ocean and landscapes. I knew one day soon they would reveal themselves in my art.

Below are 4 steps to demonstrate the process for one of the paintings

2001-2008 Where my art came to life

When you live in New York studio space is expensive. I knew I had to paint yet I had to be creative as to where I could create my art. I was a working in a high rise at the time and able to find and secure the area below the swimming pool and next floor. Being on the 35th floor, I am sure it was one of the highest Art studios in the world. I was blessed with incredible lighting and breath taking views of the city …..but there were definitely challenges climbing my way into it every day. It was for this reason that it became difficult to show and share my art. It was inevitable that I would have to leave this space and move on to the next chapter in the story of my art.
